Heavy rains affect Paragominas

Since the beginning of the morning on Thursday, April 12, the municipality of Paragominas was affected by heavy rains, causing flooding and reaching the population. The facilities and operations of Mineração Paragominas – mine, beneficiation plant, pipeline and dams – were not affected and remain stable.

The City Hall decreed a state of public calamity and mobilized people and resources to support the residents who suffered losses. Mineração Paragominas integrates efforts with the municipality and other institutions for emergency relief initiatives.

The company has already provided personal hygiene items, mattresses, among other provisions that were donated to the Secretariat of Social Assistance. Employees of Mineração Paragominas have voluntarily mobilized to contribute with donations and assistance to impacted people.

The company is also assisting employees who have been impacted by the flood, somehow. The HR and Social Work team is mapping the specific needs of each one of the families - some of them needed to be accommodated in a hotel of the city.

Mineração Paragominas’ dams are intact and stable

Mineração Paragominas informs that the integrity of its dams was not affected by the rains in the region. The situation of the mine, as well as the dams is stable and monitoring analyzes have already been carried out to demonstrate the safety of the facilities.

Official documents attesting the integrity and stability of the dam have already been delivered to SEMAS (State Secretariat for Environment and Sustainability), DNPM (National Department of Mineral Production) and SEMMA (Municipal Environment Secretariat). It is important to note that the mine and the dams are 70 kilometers away from the center of Paragominas.
