Hydro has been included on the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) 2014-2015, once again recognized as an industry leader in corporate sustainability.
The DJSI World Index is regarded by many as the world's most significant ranking of corporate performance in environmental and social responsibility and is an important guide for investors and other interested parties when evaluating companies' non-financial performance.
“We are very proud to learn that Hydro has been included in the index series this year, too. This makes Hydro one of the few companies that has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index series every year since the rankings were introduced in 1999,” Kirsten Margrethe Hovi, head of Viability Reporting in Hydro says. This year, more than 1,800 global companies were assessed, and Hydro has been included in both the World index and the European Index.
Raising the bar
The DJSI assessment methodology is continuously updated to take into account emerging sustainability challenges and topics that are considered critical for a company’s long-term value creation and thus for investor priorities. The changing criteria involve a need for continuous improvements in the assessed companies.
RobecoSAM, which performs the assessment, states that by continuously raising the bar it is able to identify the most sustainable companies in the world.
Hydro receives full score on transparency and is the industry leader when it comes to tax strategy. The latter, which is a new topic in this year’s assessment, covers issues such as responsible taxation, transparency and extended disclosure on tax payments.
“Hydro has voluntarily reported in accordance with the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI) since 2005 and transparent reporting has therefore been our model for years,” Hovi says.
