Since 2015, Hydro has contributed to the development and commercial de-risking of 2.5GW of greenfield wind projects in Norway and Sweden from a long-term offtaker position. Our Markets team has converted wind power production into baseload power for use in Hydro Aluminium Metal. In 2020, Hydro Energy took over operatorship at Norway’s second largest wind farm, Tonstad Vindpark (208 MW). We have also developed battery use cases at Hydro’s plants to establish storage capacity to avoid peak power prices and tariffs.
With the creation of Hydro Rein, Hydro is stepping up its efforts to help the industry tackle climate change. Recently, Hydro Rein has put in place a significant pipeline of wind and solar project leads for long-term power supply to Hydro’s plants. We are also looking for opportunities beyond the Hydro portfolio and developing a range of energy solutions to assist industries with the management and optimization of its energy consumption and storage behind-the-meter.
Our business model is based on agility and the ability to leverage Hydro’s 100+ years of renewable energy and industrial development. Our diverse team has the expertise and the resolve to develop projects, services and solutions that make a difference for our clients and the societies they are part of.
The transition from fossil to renewable-based energy systems plays an important role in tackling climate change. We have the legacy and capabilities to help industries getting access to affordable, cleaner energy in a responsible and sustainable way, helping them optimize their power consumption and reduce their footprint.”
