    Transparency through LCA and EPD

At Hydro, we believe that true sustainability begins with openness. Transparency prevents greenwashing and ensures that sustainability claims are verifiable and reliable. We have Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), based on the results of a life cycle assessment (LCA), to provide our customers with honest and reliable information:

    • Transparent and detailed information
We commissioned a life cycle analysis (LCA) to understand the environmental impact of our light poles. This provides insight into the entire life cycle: from raw material to end of life.
    • Specific dates
We use specific, primary data as much as possible, rather than generic or average values. This means we collect data directly from our own processes and production site, allowing us to provide our customers with truly representative LCA data.
    • Recognized standards
The LCA was prepared in accordance with ISO 14040, ISO 14044, and NEN EN 15804:2012+A1+A2 (2019), NMD Determination Method. This ensures that the environmental data align with market demands and are comparable with other similar products.
    • Verified by third parties
Our EPDs have been verified by an independent, external party according to ISO 14025. This ensures that our customers receive reliable information.

You can use the data from the EPDs directly in your own sustainability documentation, tenders, and environmental impact assessment (ECI) calculations. In addition, a CO₂ calculation tool provides a solution for customized calculations for specific mast types, surface treatments, and accessories.

"Only with clear and validated data can we work together towards a more sustainable future. But an environmental impact figure only becomes meaningful when it's clear how it was calculated and the underlying assumptions. Interpreting LCA results requires expert knowledge and in-depth understanding of the subject matter. Only then can we compare products fairly and avoid comparing apples and oranges."

    EPD

An EPD is an environmental product declaration that, based on the results of an LCA, provides transparent and detailed insight into the environmental impacts of a product throughout its entire life cycle.

An EPD provides insight into a wide range of environmental impacts, such as raw material use, energy consumption, water consumption, emissions to air and water, and impacts on biodiversity. This provides a complete picture of a product's total environmental impact throughout its entire life cycle, encompassing much more than just CO₂ emissions. This allows for fair and comprehensive product comparisons based on sustainability and allows for choices that go beyond simply meeting climate objectives.

Insight through the National Environmental Database (NMD)

Hydro has two environmental statements in the National Environmental Database; a central database that collects and publishes validated environmental data on construction products. Hydro's light poles are listed in the NMD as Category 1 products, meaning the environmental data is highly reliable and representative of actual production processes. This underscores Hydro's commitment to transparency and sustainability.
