UNICEF is working with partners in Ukraine to reach 7.5 million vulnerable children and their families with essential services, including health, education, protection, water and sanitation, as well as life-saving supplies.

“Millions of children in Ukraine have had their lives turned upside down. Children are innocent victims of wars where they are deprived of the most basic needs like guaranteed safety, access to adequate food, health care and education. We hope our holiday contribution will contribute to the education and development for the children of Ukraine,” says Hilde Merete Aasheim, President and CEO in Hydro.

Hydro is a signature partner of UNICEF Norway and Hydro’s social responsibility strategy focuses on education and skills development, with targets aligned to several areas of UNICEF’s core competencies. Therefore, the holiday contribution from Hydro is designated to be used on programs for education and development.

In March, Hydro and its employees donated NOK 10 million to UNICEF’s work in Ukraine after it was invaded by the Russian Federation in February. As a response to the attack by Russia, Hydro also decided to not enter new contracts with Russian counterparts, and looked at how to handle and exit existing commitments, including freeze of commercial relationships.
