The only 360º company in the global aluminum industry, Hydro participates in yet another edition of the Pará Industry Fair (FIPA) with a stand where visitors can learn about the production chain - from bauxite to the manufacture of aluminum products -, the best waste treatment technologies, technological innovations in industry 4.0, lines of research in progress, in addition to investments in social projects and fostering local development. In this way, the company reinforces its commitment to the State of Pará and the municipalities where it operates. Held by the Federation of Industries of Pará (Fiepa) and Sebrae, the XIV FIPA takes place from May 15th to 18th, at Hangar, in Belém.

In the main relationship event between the population of the capital and the industries of the State, Hydro has a stand of 108 square meters, structured for displaying videos and displaying panels, in addition to a digital interactive environment, with augmented reality of aluminum objects. Among the contents, it is highlighted, for example, the technology of the filter press and dry stacking, one of the most modern in the world in the treatment and storage of waste, used at Alunorte, in Barcarena.

Result of an investment of more than R $ 1 billion, this project, started in 2015, brought the pioneer method in the country to the refinery. The filter presses generate a residue with 78% solids content, which allows dry stacking by means of compaction, increasing the safety of the deposit and significantly reducing the area used for armament of waste. The company was the first to use this technology to filter waste in Brazil on a large scale.

“With the combination of these two technologies - press and compaction filters - the space required to store the waste is four times smaller when compared to the previous drum filter technology. This procedure significantly reduces the humidity of the bauxite residue and further increases the deposit's security ”, explains Carlos Neves, Hydro's Bauxite and Alumina Area Operations Director. “FIPA is an excellent opportunity to present, in an open and transparent way, investments in the management and monitoring of deposits, in order to guarantee the security of our operations in the State”, he adds.

At XIV FIPA, Hydro also shows the results of the Brazil-Norway Biodiversity Research Consortium (BRC), maintained by Hydro in Paragominas, a partnership with the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), the Federal Rural University of the Amazon (UFRA), the University of Oslo (UiO) and the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi (MPEG).

The Consortium seeks to reach the highest level of development in ecological and environmental rehabilitation, based on science, in addition to promoting education and research. About 100 professionals are involved in all of the Consortium's research programs. BRC has already implemented several new studies, such as algae and crustaceans, among others.

The company also presents initiatives in the area of social responsibility, in the areas of education, entrepreneurship and employability. In Barcarena, young people aged 18 to 29 participate in the EmBarca Amazônia 360º for the development of entrepreneurial skills and sustainable business development. Soon, the municipality will gain a solid waste sorting unit, the result of the Sustentar program, a public-private partnership between Hydro and the City Hall.

In Paragominas, the highlight is the experience of environmental awareness focused on young people in the region, as part of the organization and strengthening of the municipality's recyclable waste cooperative.

In addition, the visitor will be able to see a summary of the actions of Hydro's volunteer program, Voluntários em Ação, which promotes seedling planting workshops, sports tournaments, recreation with the children of the communities and revitalization of public spaces and equipment. coexistence.

“We are committed to making a positive difference in the municipalities where we operate and initiatives like these allow us to act effectively, exercising our role as a good neighbor and contributing to a more viable society”, analyzes Luana Carvalhosa, senior manager of Social Programs from Hydro.
