Cromodora Wheels is a long-standing Hydro customer and a key player in the aluminium wheel industry. During 2021, they will make Hydro REDUXA a significant part of their aluminium supply for wheel production.

As car makers are electrifying cars to remove emissions from the vehicle’s use phase, next up is lowering emissions in the production phase, and materials are in focus.

Aluminium in transport is contributing to light-weighting and lowering energy consumption when cars are in use. Looking at the material itself, the carbon footprint of aluminium varies greatly depending on where and how it is produced.

Hydro REDUXA has a certified maximum carbon footprint of 4.0 kg CO2e/kg aluminium. This is less than a quarter of the global average and includes the entire value chain of aluminium from raw material to finished product including transport (smelter scope 1,2,3).

The Hydro REDUXA foundry alloy aluminium volumes to Cromodora Wheels will be produced at Hydro’s Norwegian primary aluminium production sites in Sunndal and Årdal, where production is based entirely on renewable hydropower.
