Hydro’s Energy business area is responsible for safe and efficient operations of Hydro’s hydropower plants in Norway. Our experts work actively in several markets to support the energy agendas of Hydro’s global aluminium business. Energy Markets is responsible for maximizing the value of Hydro’s power portfolio and for providing energy portfolio management for our global aluminium activities.
We now seek an experienced Hydrologist to join us in a key role, in the crossing point between power production and optimization of the hydro power.
This is an exciting opportunity for hands-on action, managing 10% of Norway’s hydro power production as the hydrology expert in a small team, close to the decision makers.
Area of Responsibility
As Hydro Energy’s Hydrologist, your responsibility is to maintain and develop our hydrological models and provide hydrological evaluations for the hydropower planning.
These are some key deliveries:
- Participate in the daily production planning with hydrological insight and commercial mindset
- Maintain and develop hydrological models for long- and short-term production planning
- Drive improvements linked to Hydro’s water budget; inflow- and snow modelling, and methodology in general
- Participate in R&D projects to further improve hydrological models
- Provide cross-departmental support on hydrological evaluations, e.g. evaluating effects of concessional obligations and flooding modelling
Qualifications
- Master’s degree
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant working experience within hydrology
- Strong modelling and quantitative skills, with the proven ability to understand and process data
- Fluency in English and Norwegian
- Experience with Powel software and with programming is an advantage
