Meet Carol: ‘A career that has been more than I ever expected’
Carol Chizmar manages and supports customer service teams across North America, allowing her to collaborate with and learn from others in the organization.
About Carol
I was born and raised in Pottsville, Pa., just a few miles away from the Cressona plant; I still live in the area. I enjoy gardening, spending time with family, and traveling to warm locations. But for anyone that knows me, my number one favorite pastime is shopping!
Education
While working here, I was able to take advantage of the Tuition Reimbursement Program to pursue my degree in Business Administration. I took night classes at the local Penn State campus and graduated with Highest Distinction. The encouragement I received from my manager/mentor along the way is something I will never forget.
Job and location
Team Leader – Support & ENA Customer Service Lead and I work out of our facility in Cressona, Pa.
Duties
Part of my job is to manage a team that supports our Customer Service Representatives. We work together to ensure that our customers’ quotes and orders are completed on-time and with the greatest accuracy. I also manage the customer service department at our Mountain Top, Pa. plant.
The other part of my job is working with the Customer Service leads across North America. We have developed and implemented important metrics that measure several indices that impact our “Ease of Doing Business” promise for our customers. This part of my job enables me to work with some amazing people within our organization and I am constantly learning from them.
Likes
What I enjoy most is the opportunity to work with the many talented individuals across North America and learn and share best practices. This is collaboration on a grand scale. In addition, the company has supported my involvement with the Association of Women in the Metal Industries (AWMI) which has many opportunities in career development. I have been a member for 37 years, was the International President from 2017-18 and, honored as ‘Member of the Year’ in 2013. I am a better employee having had the training and experiences offered by AWMI. I have encouraged many women colleagues to not only join but to become involved and represent Hydro.
Development
I feel very fortunate to have had many opportunities for training and personal development. Hydro will enable you to take advantage of these opportunities when you work hard and apply yourself.
Goals
As I wind down my career with Hydro, I hope to inspire others to be and do the best they can. If you work hard, have integrity, and do your best, the opportunities to succeed will be within your grasp. My 40+ years have been rewarding beyond my wildest dreams; what started as “just a job”, quickly turned into a career that was more than I could ever have expected.
Working at Hydro
Most jobs can be rewarding but there are only a few companies that give you the tools to succeed, offer you the opportunities and help mentor you to be the best that you can be. I am fortunate to have found a great mentor here early on in my career. Anyone at Hydro currently looking for this can find many talented, compassionate, and caring individuals that can fulfill that need. If you are willing to give it your best, this company will help you create the career you are looking for!
