By recognizing the Círio de Nossa Senhora de Nazaré as a cultural manifestation of the people of Pará, Hydro and Albras will carry out a solidarity action in the procession next Sunday, the 8th, with the distribution of mineral water to pilgrims through the Volunteers in Action initiative.

Distributing water along the pilgrimage routes is one of Círio’s great traditions. This is how many faithful pay their promises and show solidarity with the sacrifice of many devotees who face the arduous journeys of the processions.

The goal of the volunteer committees, made up of employees, hired companies and family members, is to distribute 15 thousand cups of bottled water, involving more than 40 volunteers throughout the procession. For more than 12 years, corporate volunteering has been making this donation, which will be resumed after a period of interruption due to the pandemic. The action has the support of the units in Pará: Alunorte, Albras and the Hydro office in Belém, through the three Volunteer Committees.

The member of the Hydro Volunteer Committee, Jecelma Silva, highlights that this tradition will be resumed this year by the volunteers invited to do good at this special moment. “As a person from Pará, I know the great importance and representation that Círio has. Participating in actions like this during the procession is fundamental and very exciting. The energy we feel from seeing everyone focused on good, reaffirms the purpose of Volunteering, which is what you can do for others, and Hydro's tripod which is Collaboration, Care and Courage”, highlights the volunteer.

Volunteering brings together employees and employees of contracted companies and their families, who dedicate part of their free time to making a positive difference in the communities surrounding the units, sharing knowledge and skills. Volunteers will be concentrated, from 6 am, on the corner of Avenida Nazaré and Travessa Dr. Moraes (next to the Assembly of God), wearing identification vests from Hydro and Albras.

“The resumption of this action reinforces that volunteering goes beyond the operating areas of Hydro Alunorte and Albras and shows that these activities also meet the expectations of employees in other locations. It also reinforces how important Círio is for the people of Pará and the respect we have for this culture”, says volunteer committee member Layana Batista, work safety engineer at the refinery.

The collection of mineral water in 200 ml glasses was mobilized by internal campaigns in the companies, involving godparents and other supporters. The volunteers who will perform the deliveries have registered to participate.

The godfather of the action for Albras, Márcio Ney Souza, in addition to being a volunteer, is a promise payer and will be on the Círio rope on Sunday. “We carried out a huge mobilization to collect five thousand glasses of water because we think it is important to help the Círio faithful. I am happy to contribute to an event of this nature and with great meaning for me as I am a devotee and have been riding the rope for 20 years”, celebrates the volunteer.

Maniçoba do bem -  In parallel to the water distribution action in Círio, the Belém Volunteer Committee also supported the “Maniçoba Solidária” campaign by Casa Ronald McDonald. Hydro volunteers invited Casa Ronald to come to the office and carry out a large sales campaign of the typical food they produce to generate funds aimed at the maintenance and sustainability of the House.
