Residents of the quilombola communities of Jambuaçu and Juquiri, in the municipality of Moju, and the municipality of Acará, received new professional training through the Hydro Paragominas Professional Training Program in partnership with the National Industrial Learning Service (Senai, in portuguese).

Aligned with Hydro's strategy of contributing to the development of communities neighboring its units, the Program is the result of dialogue with these communities and seeks to offer professional qualification courses, leaving a legacy of knowledge and greater opportunities for the job market, contributing to the sustainable development of territories.

Completed in August, the courses trained 20 new backhoe operators, in Acará, and 30 welders in Jambuaçu and Juquiri, with classes in the Senai mobile unit stationed at Casa Familiar Rural. In these last quilombola communities alone, there are already more than 150 people trained in professional courses, between 2021 and 2023. And, in September, the promotion of the new pastry chef course begins in the João Lobo community, in Acará, with 20 places on offer.

New training in progress - In Tomé-Açu, in August, the inaugural classes of backhoe operator, administrative assistant and computer operator courses took place in the Água Branca, Itabocal and Tropicália communities, respectively, each with 20 places offered.

The teacher and president of the Itabocal Community Association, Alcione de Nazaré Dias, highlights the importance of taking the administrative assistant course in the locality. “It was a gift to our community. Knowledge is never too much. Being able to see people from my quilombo qualifying to enter the job market in the future, having new opportunities and also sharing knowledge with other people, is a source of great joy”, celebrates Alcione.

For the machine room manager, Ronildo Carvalho Gomes, resident of the Água Boa community, participating in the backhoe operator course is a great opportunity for qualification. “The fact that it is held here in the community makes it much easier for those who do not have time for travel and logistics. Having a professional qualification means looking to the future, the job market is very competitive and we have to be prepared”, highlights Ronildo.

Still in Tomé-Açu, the fourth class of diesel engine mechanics is planned, in the quilombola community Nova Betel. For this municipality, 120 vacancies should be opened this year.

“Investing in Education and Skills is one of our strategic axes, and with Hydro’s Professional Training Program we have reaped transformative results, as we have already impacted approximately 700 people. And with the coordination made by the Dialogue & Engagement management, based on social dialogue, we are increasingly engaging the participation of communities in the Program, strengthening the relationship between Hydro and the territories, in addition to contributing to the socioeconomic development of these regions”, highlights Eduardo Bustamante, Dialogue and Engagement manager.
