The groundbreaking scheduled for March has been postponed to May due to COVID regulations for events. As part of the ground-breaking ceremony, the approximately 500-strong workforce now had the opportunity to inspect the progress of the construction work on site together with the state representatives and Mayor Kasseroler. "It was particularly important to us that the entire workforce was able to be present at the groundbreaking of our "MEGA" project, because they are the engine of our success," emphasizes Managing Director Manfred Rotschne and is pleased that so many came to the official celebration followed by lunch.

Ready for the future

With the construction of an additional press, the plant is expanding its extrusion capacities by around 30%. "The new 10-inch press with a pressing force of 40 meganewtons enables us to cover the increasing demand on the market and to be able to serve the growing interest in larger products in the future," says Manfred Rotschne happily. The plant will be one of the most modern in Europe and will offer customers new and exceptional opportunities for innovative and complex products. The Austrian plant of the Norwegian aluminum group Norsk Hydro is thus setting new standards on the market. A project team has been working intensively on new technologies and innovative options for months to create outstanding product features. This includes highly flexible profile cooling and a directly linked material flow from the bolt to the processed product.

Nenzing excellence

Thanks to the expanded capacities both in the extrusion area and in mechanical processing, customers can look forward to continued excellent performance. The expansion supports the location's "Nenzing Excellence" strategy tremendously. The customer will notice a significant improvement in the area of delivery speed, above all because one can act even more flexibly with a total of four presses.

Pioneer in sustainability

In the project planning, in addition to the focus on the highest possible efficiency, particular importance was attached to sustainability issues, among other things, a bolt heater is purchased that requires 40% less energy than the previous systems. In addition, Hydro Nenzing has been obtaining 100% of the energy it needs from hydropower since January 1, 2022. Managing Director Rotschne points out the positive effects: “The result is aluminum with one of the best climate balance values that is possible today. Based on the 2020 electricity labeling of our local supplier, around 700 tons of emissions can be saved at the site (with an already high proportion of renewable energies of around 93%.” With this and the measures taken in the new project, the company will reduce its CO2 Further reduce footprint, which is already a benchmark in the industry.
