An interesting fact about aluminium is that 75% of all aluminium ever produced is still in use. Recycling alumimium also requires very little energy, only 5% of what’s needed to make the metal the first time.

La eterna vida del aluminio

La chatarra pre-consumo es, típicamente, chatarra que proviene del proceso de producción y que no ha sito utilizada como producto hasta que se refusiona de nuevo. 

La chatarra post-consumo es aluminio que ya ha tenido una "vida" -quizá como marco de ventana, o componente de un vehículo- y será reciclada para convertirse en algo nuevo.

Los productos mas eficientes en términos de CO2 son los que provienen de la chatarra post-consumo.
