Hydro companies in Brazil increased their scores in the Ethos Institute Integrity Report. The report is an annual requirement of the Institute for companies to remain signatories of the Business Pact for Integrity and Against Corruption.

The increase in the ratings of Hydro Paragominas, Hydro Alunorte, Albras, Norsk Hydro Brasil, Hydro Extrusão and Hydro Energia was influenced by new procedures and improvements in the governance of donations and sponsorships, in addition to improvements and greater transparency in reports relating to acquisitions, matters external factors and sustainability. This reinforces the continuous improvement of the Compliance system of the companies that make up Hydro in Brazil.

“Hydro is proud to remain committed to the Business Pact for Integrity and Against Corruption. Remaining in the pact is a clear demonstration of our ongoing commitment to integrity and corporate responsibility. It is thanks to the joint effort of our employees at all levels and areas of the company that we are promoting significant improvements in our Compliance procedures and governance. We look forward to continuing our journey towards increasingly responsible and honest management”, stated Cristina Leite, Compliance Officer at Hydro.

Since 2017, Hydro companies have been signatories to the Business Pact for Integrity and Against Corruption and Hydro is an institutional partner of the Ethos Institute in Brazil. The two initiatives demonstrate Hydro's commitment to combating corruption and bribery, and promoting integrity in the business environment. Furthermore, as signatories of the Pact, Hydro companies fill out a self-assessment questionnaire annually, providing information and transparency about their management practices and business conduct. This questionnaire, as well as other means, is used as a tool for assessment and continuous improvement of our efforts to combat corruption and bribery, as well as a means of annual monitoring of Hydro's compliance system in Brazil.

About the Business Pact

The Business Pact for Integrity and Against Corruption was launched in June 2006, on the initiative of the Ethos Institute for Business and Social Responsibility, UniEthos – Training and Development of Socially Responsible Management, Patri Government Relations & Public Policies, the Nations Program United Nations for Development (UNDP), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Brazilian Committee of the Global Compact.

In Brazil, 1,281 companies are part of the pact, in 2023. In Pará, where Hydro has most of its operations, 22 institutions are signatories to the initiative, with Hydro being the only one in the mining area. Each year, participating companies must complete the Thematic Guide on Integrity, Prevention and Combating Corruption, a platform for monitoring the commitments made.

It brings together companies with the aim of promoting a more honest, ethical market and eradicating bribery and corruption. By becoming signatories to the pact, companies are committed to disclosing Brazilian anti-corruption legislation to their employees and stakeholders, so that it is fully complied with.
