Using environmental education as a structuring public policy, this is the objective of the Environmental Education Program, developed by Alunorte and Albras, in Barcarena. The initiative is unprecedented in the region and aims to develop environmental education actions throughout the territory, with more active and qualified participation in discussions. One of the activities is the Training of Environmental Multiplier Agents.

The trainings serve different audiences, both local communities and employees of Hydro Alunorte and Albras operations, both located in the municipality. During the training sessions, a mapping of environmental education initiatives in the municipality and action proposals for intervention on socio-environmental issues were presented. More than 100 people received training for the 1st training cycle focusing on the urban area of Barcarena.

Community agent Suzana Flor believes that the knowledge acquired in training will support her activities at work. "We really need to ingrain this environmental knowledge. I work with children and this is a legacy to leave for them. The course will lead me to have more knowledge, I met people here who are already engaged and I have a lot to learn", said Suzana.

For Iva Martins, administrative assistant at Filtro Prensa, the content expanded her vision on the topic. “I will take it to my personal life and to my area. Now, we need to replicate it to the people around us, bringing awareness to the theory and the need to put everything we learn into practice,” she said.

More actions

Another activity is Training in Elaboration and Management of Socio-Environmental Projects, which seeks to strengthen Barcarena's environmental education initiatives by sharing methodologies and tools for preparing and executing possible paths to raise funds for projects. In this way, the program contributes to expanding the management skills of these entities. The II cycle of the Environmental Education program is scheduled to begin in April 2024, focusing on the rural area of Barcarena and continuing training for Alunorte and Albras employees.
