The current corona crisis has a negative impact on the global economy and especially on the global industry. It affects the manufacturing industry in particular, throughout the entire production chain, from raw material to finished products. Aluminum is an important material in most industries today, which means that the crisis also affects Hydro Extrusion Sweden, part of the global Hydro Group. A reduced order intake due to covid-19 in combination with a slow recovery mean that Hydro Extrusion Sweden has to take action. Earlier today, May 25th, employees at Hydro´s manufacturing plants in Vetlanda och Finspång received information about notice of termination. The notice affects 105 employees.

"First and foremost, it’s very regrettable for our competent and talented employees. This is not a decision you want to make, nor a message you want to give to your colleagues. The corona crisis concerns all aspects of the global industry. Unfortunately, the crisis also affects Hydro Extrusion Sweden, since aluminum is a key material in many industries", says Jonas Bjuhr, CEO of Hydro Extrusion Sweden AB.

The reason for the notice of termination is the difficult market situation and an expected slow recovery. At the time being it’s impossible to say when the global industry will be back on track. In order to remain competitive, Hydro Extrusion Sweden has reached a point where the company is forced to give notice of termination. Exactly how many employees and which positions that are affected by the current situation have not yet been determined, as Hydro awaits upcoming negotiations with the trade unions.

"We must await the results from the negotiations with the unions. Our ambition is to implement the change as soon as possible, but the final time frame will be negotiated with the trade unions. We will support our employees during this process and continue to be a reliable supplier to our customers around the world", says Jonas Bjuhr.
