Hydro Alunorte achieved the silver seal from the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program (PBGHG), a tool that calculates carbon emissions directly resulting from corporate production processes. To participate in the program, information regarding greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions was accounted for, including data on fuel consumption for employee transportation, emissions from the production process, and those associated with the generation of electricity consumed by the company, electricity expenditure, use of disposable products like plastic cups, among other actions.

“This is another important step in Hydro’s strategy towards the global goal of reducing carbon emissions by 30% by 2030. This achievement will provide greater reliability in reporting Hydro Alunorte's emissions and will increase the visibility of decarbonization projects, ensuring transparency about data of high relevance to society, which faces the challenge of combating global warming,” evaluates Michel Lisboa, president of Hydro Alunorte.

The silver certification achieved by the company is the intermediate level of certification, which also includes gold and bronze seals.

About the GHG Protocol

The Brazilian GHG Protocol Program was created in 2008 and is responsible for adapting the GHG Protocol method to the Brazilian context and developing calculation tools for estimating GHG emissions.

It was developed by the Center for Sustainability Studies at the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGVces) and the environmental non-governmental organization World Resources Institute (WRI), in partnership with the Ministry of the Environment, the Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS), World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBSCD), and 27 Founding Companies.

The Program's objectives are to stimulate the corporate culture of GHG emission inventory in Brazil for an agenda to address climate change in organizations; Provide tools and international quality standards for accounting emissions and publishing inventories.
