Hydro participated last Wednesday, the 24th, in the 1st Seminar on Technological Education and Sustainable Development in the municipality of Barcarena, northeast of Pará, promoted by the State Secretariat of Science, Technology, and Higher, Professional, and Technological Education (Sectet). The goal was to discuss opportunities for professional qualification based on the economic aptitude of the municipality of Barcarena, thereby stimulating awareness about technological education and encouraging the development of the region. The event was held at the Pará Technical Teaching School Maria Siqueira dos Santos (EETEPA).

One of the highlights of the meeting was the launch of the Professions Guide by the “Todos pelo Trabalho” (TpT) network, a work and income promotion initiative in Barcarena, implemented with support from Hydro, Alunorte, and Albras in 2018. “Today represents a milestone for us, this partnership with the Technical School and the opportunity to present a production of the project that brings the profile of local labor and data about the municipality's economy to discuss with other actors in the region, such as the teachers of the municipality's technical training. Thus, we can advance in the construction of planning for the coming years in Barcarena,” comments Milene Maués, Partnerships Manager of the Hydro Sustainability Fund (FSH).

The Professions Guide contains various information gathered through social dialogue established within the project, such as qualitative research conducted by the project team itself with companies operating in the city, in addition to data from IBGE and the Annual Social Information Report (RAIS) from the Ministry of Labor and Employment. “This guide was created by a group of actors who were willing to dialogue and generate content, something tangible that we brought here today. May this day mark the consolidation of the ‘Todos pelo Trabalho’ network with the involved parties and effective actions to make a difference, not just in Barcarena, but perhaps at the state level with this partnership,” comments Daiane Costa, representative of the TpT network. The complete guide is available at the link.

The launch of the Professions Guide contributed fundamental information to the debates raised during the seminar on public policies, roles of companies and society, and opportunities in the job market. Approximately one hundred people participated in the discussions, including students, teachers, and representatives of companies operating in the areas. “Hydro's goal in transferring the Technical School to the State is to make it a vibrant educational hub. This seminar is a significant milestone as we know that the school is already operating in a structured manner, thinking about the future and the development of the region. It's an opportunity for companies, civil society, and government to converse and outline educational guidelines to promote an improvement in the quality of life of the people,” says Paula Marlieri, Senior Manager of External Relations at Hydro.
