Norsk Hydro, a global leader in aluminium processing and production, has long been committed to the development of society and the environment around us.

Based on these values, it develops strategies to support human rights and the overall well-being of life on earth. Hydro actively participates in the affirmation of the dignity and equality of all human beings, regarding their subsistence and to the rights of freedom enshrined in international associations.

In recent years, many extreme weather events have occurred alongside climate change. Floods, droughts, heatwaves and storms seriously threaten the food production and livelihoods of millions of people around the world.

As part of the Hydro group’s mission, Hydro Extrusion Italy, a specialist in the manufacturing of aluminium profiles and solutions, has chosen to work with Action Against Hunger, an international humanitarian organization committed to the fight against hunger in the world, by launching a challenge – completely digital.

"We are proud of our people and their engagement. More than 110 workers of our company accepted the challenge. We believe in involving everyone to take on the challenge and reflect on the consequences of climate changes on human beings. It will be an opportunity to learn, challenge ourselves and contribute to our well-being. We are happy to be all connected against hunger, with care, courage and collaboration," says Luca Bertola, Managing Director Hydro Extrusion Italy.

Aiming to save the lives of hundreds of children

This charity competition, for the 690 million people globally who suffer from hunger, will involve the employees from Hydro’s plants in Ornago (in Lombardy) and in Feltre (in Veneto). Moreover, Hydro Extrusion Italy will compete against other companies around the world for a common goal: connecting in the fight against hunger.

Hydro Extrusion Italy’s donations to Action Against Hunger will be aimed toward saving 268 children with life-saving treatments. Italian colleagues will compete, during their free time, to win points and win the challenge.

The digital challenge enables employees to identify themselves as humanitarian workers engaged in the field, specializing in environmental and climate issues in support of Action Against Hunger projects globally.

Engaging colleagues and uniting people

The challenge will work like this: for one month, during their free time and through sporting missions and quizzes, the participating employees will get first-hand experience in Action Against Hunger's climate change activities on the ground, and will learn more about the important role people play and what it means to be an humanitarian worker.

The challenge is also animated by a social network linked to Twitter and Instagram, where photos from all over the world can be shared.

Experts, beginners, people who normally do not do fitness: everybody will be able to earn points and team up thanks to the themed quizzes and activities such as walking and yoga.

The goal of Hydro Extrusion Italy is clear: have fun together and contribute to a good cause, connected against hunger.
