Expert for recycling

Scharf-Bergmann has a lot of experience from the European recycling industry. From 2000 to 2008 he was managing director of VAW-IMCO Guss und Recycling GmbH and since 2002 also managing director of IMCO Recycling (UK) Ltd. In 2006 he also became head of the Recycling business unit in Aleris Europe.

From 2005 to 2008 Scharf-Bergmann was President of the OEA (Organization of European Aluminum Refiners and Remelters) and from 2006 to 2008 member of the Board of Directors of the EAA (European Aluminum Association).

Roland Scharf-Bergmann has a degree in engineering from the Institute for Non-Metallic Materials at the Technical University in Clausthal-Zellerfeld.

More recycling

Hydro is currently increasing its aluminum recycling activities. The recycling capacity in Germany has been increased by 150,000 tonnes over the past three years, the last step taking place in November this year at the Hydro Joint Venture Alunorf in Neuss. Further investments are being considered.

Hydro is already one of the largest aluminum recycling companies. The network includes almost 30 locations in all important aluminum markets around the world. Hydro's recycling business includes remelting scrap from customers and other sources, as well as from its own operations.

In 2008, Hydro remelted 1.5 million tons of aluminum, including the recovery of coated and contaminated metal.
