The planning of customer transfers to other Hydro locations is now underway. Once these plans are finalized, the scheduling of site decommissioning will proceed. The plants are expected to close in late 2026 at the earliest.
This confirmation follows the completion of the formal consultation process with employee representatives. Hydro will now work with local agencies to ensure all employees receive support and assistance in finding new jobs. Hydro will continue to serve its UK extrusion customers from the remaining extrusion plant in Tibshelf and from other European locations, maintaining high service levels and product quality. The customers will be contacted by their Hydro sales contacts in due course.
The closures are part of Hydro’s ongoing efforts to optimize its extrusion footprint across Europe, as announced on November 26, 2025. Along with the two UK plants, Hydro also announced its intention to close extrusion plants in Ludenscheid in Germany, Feltre in Italy, and Drunen in the Netherlands.
After the closure of the Bedwas and Cheltenham plants, Hydro will have the following remaining sites in the UK: one extrusion plant in Tibshelf, Derbyshire, one recycling plant in Wrexham, and one Building Systems location in Tewkesbury.
