Meet Camila Reis: Championing care and community

“Hydro is a great place to work because of its people and the strong sense of community. The collaborative environment, where everyone's contributions are valued and respected, fosters innovation and growth,” says Camila when asked about what makes Hydro a great place to work.

Camila is known in the office as a compassionate colleague who champions collaboration and teamwork, and is not afraid to speak up and challenge the status quo.

Outside of her work as a Paralegal Analyst in Hydro Rein, Camila spends a significant amount of time volunteering. She heads a project called “Contruindo Futuros” (Building futures) where she mentors women entrepreneurs in the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro and volunteers her time as an English teacher for children from low income backgrounds at a school where she leads a team of seven teachers.

Each year Hydro asks employees to nominate colleagues who go the extra mile for the annual Hydro People that Matter Award. The nominations are based on efforts that reflect Hydro’s values of Care, Courage and Collaboration, in or outside the workplace.

Camila embodies Hydro’s core values through her dedication to a healthy work environment and her time invested in building resilience in her local community.

Witnessing the impact of my efforts on my colleagues and the community inspires me to continue taking actions and making decisions that drive positive change.

Which of Hydro’s values mean the most to you and why?

The value that means the most to me is Care. Being genuinely invested in the wellbeing of others and the environment is fundamental to creating a supportive and sustainable workplace. It’s about showing empathy, offering support whenever and wherever help is needed, and ensuring safety, which are all crucial for a thriving community. Collaboration is also vital, as working together enables us to achieve the best outcomes.

The empowerment and trust given to us as employees are also significant factors.

Our company culture is inclusive, supportive and driven by a shared commitment to our values. You recently visited Oslo with your fellow award recipients. Any key takeaways from your Oslo trip you’d like to share?

The trip to Oslo was an enriching experience. It was inspiring to meet colleagues from different parts of the world and share our experiences and insights. The visit reinforced the importance of our values and the global impact of our work. My fellow recipients are a true inspiration and I hope to follow in their footsteps.

One of the most memorable moments was attending the Nobel Peace Prize Award Ceremony. Meeting the laureates from Nihon Hidankyo, the Hibakusha – survivors of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombs – and hearing Terumi Tanaka’s testimony was a unique and profound experience. The stories of resilience and commitment to peace were deeply moving and reminded me of the power of the human spirit and the importance of our efforts to promote a better world. Every small action contributes to making a significant difference!
