Meet Jimmy Price: Your contribution matters

“I think Care. I like to be there for people and I want to make sure that everyone is ok. In their personal life and work life. I want to make sure people are happy and I enjoy it when people are,” says Jimmy, when asked which of Hydro’s values of Care, Courage and Collaboration means the most to him.

Each year Hydro asks employees to nominate colleagues who go the extra mile for the annual Hydro People that Matter Award. The nominations are based on efforts that reflect Hydro’s values in or outside the workplace.

Described as the go-to man by his colleagues, Jimmy demonstrates Care, Courage and Collaboration every day. He is accredited to being a caring colleague, who always ensures his colleagues can go about their daily work in the safest way.

Jimmy works as a Deputy Team Leader on Press 5 within Hydro Extrusions Cheltenham, where he is an active contributor to a positive work environment. His efforts increase employee engagement and facilitate collaboration in the workplace through activities like organizing charity golf tournaments and fantasy football tournaments for his colleagues.

After his colleague and friend fell ill, Jimmy organized several charity events to raise money for Prostate Cancer research, and went above and beyond to care for his friend during a trying time. Jimmy has dedicated his People that Matter Award to his friend who unfortunately passed away, demonstrating his selfless and caring character. A true embodiment of the Hydro value Care, Jimmy is described as Cheltenham’s Hydro hero.

Congratulations on receiving the People that Matter Award! Can you describe what receiving this award means to you?

I was very proud to receive the award. It was an overwhelming, but brilliant experience and it was great to be recognized for what I thought was just doing what I do day in, day out. I’m very happy to have received this award and would like to dedicate it to a close friend who sadly passed away.

You exemplify the Hydro values beyond your daily work, what motivates you to go the extra mile?

My managers always back me with things I want to do which makes me feel like I want to go that extra mile for the company. I also enjoy doing these sorts of activities. I like to be a good friend and person towards my peers and help wherever I can.

Which of Hydro’s values mean the most to you and why?

I think Care. I like to be there for people and I want to make sure that everyone is ok. In their personal life and work life. I want to make sure people are happy and I enjoy it when people are.

As a true ambassador for Hydro, what do you think makes our company a great place to work?

I think we care about people, and Hydro does a lot of things to try and bring people together. Hydro takes people’s best interests to heart and this is also how I treat my peers. This is what makes Hydro a great company to work for.

How would you describe our company culture?

The culture has improved compared to how it used to be. People are treated a lot more fairly. This creates a good foundation for me and my team to go about our daily business to the best of our ability.

You recently visited Oslo with your fellow award recipients. Any key takeaways from your Oslo trip you’d like to share?

Where do I start? Rich Collins made my life very easy and made sure my journey was as stress free as possible. It was nice to be included in the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony and meeting the senior leadership in Hydro. I also particularly enjoyed seeing the Hydro headquarters. I hope we can get some more award recipients from Cheltenham, so they get to experience what I did. It was an unforgettable experience and is one of the highlights of my life.
