Built between 2011 and 2013 by the Polish recycling company Alumetal, Nowa Sól has been under continuous development to comply with the highest quality requirements in the market. The plant has an annual production capacity of 60,000 tonnes of recycled foundry alloys and primarily serves key European automotive customers.
In addition, the plant is a significant scrap processing hub with the capability of sorting 120,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap annually. In 2025, the plant’s sorting line was extended with the installation of two HySort sorters. Developed by Hydro, the HySort technology uses using advanced laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) to sort and recycle more challenging scrap types.
In 2025, Nowa Sól was verified by third-party auditor DNV to produce Hydro CIRCAL, Hydro’s premium recycled aluminium containing a guaranteed minimum of 75 percent post-consumer scrap (PCS). Expanding the offering to foundry alloys enables automotive companies to use Hydro CIRCAL for critical parts such as wheels, battery boxes, and structural and engine components.
Alumetal was acquired by Hydro in 2023. The plants were rebranded as Hydro facilities in January 2026.
