Hydro Aluminium Porsgrunn is a key contributor to R&D within Hydro’s Hall-Héroult process activities. Its work covers a broad range of areas, including modelling, CO₂ capture and storage, waste management and treatment, sustainability, and testing of relining materials. These activities are supported by a well-equipped laboratory with extensive capabilities for materials testing and characterization. Hydro Aluminium Porsgrunn also serves as Hydro’s central laboratory for alumina and fluoride quality assurance and control.

Hydro Aluminium Porsgrunn is the main site for the development of HalZero, our new groundbreaking technology for net-zero CO2 production of primary aluminium. At this location we have offices and labs, and we operate our HalZero Test Facility supporting the development.
